Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

Lowepro whistler expensive though, I use the 150 AW but i don't have the 40-150 lens, however i think it would fit fine, they do a 250, Advantages of these 2 is theres a Buttie space at the top...there are others that may suit but don't hold your chocolate spread sandwichs

Thanks Rob, just a little too big and expensive, but thanks anyway. Think I'll stick with the current bag for the moment as aside from the slight bulge in the side when carrying the 40-150, it's otherwise pretty much perfect.

Oh, have also traded my Panasonic 7-14 in with MPB as I've just ordered the Olympus 7-14 F2.8 Pro that completes my trinity of lenses (7-14, 12-40 & 40-150).

Loved the small size and image quality of the Panasonic, but just kept getting far too many ugly purple blobs on the Olympus sensors, so tried a friends copy of the 7-14 and it was stellar, and even shone into the sun, no purple blobs.

Can't wait for it to arrive now. Interestingly, MPB offered me a price that was only £60 less than I paid for the lens second hand nearly 2 years ago. Not too shabby methinks.

Guys for ultimate DOF what options do we have

The Zuiko F1.8s
Noct 42.5 F1.2 <<<< seems like best bet but are there any equiv quality but smaller MM
Voightlander .95 But Manuel focus

Do Panasonic do anything lower than F1.8, i wanted a kick ass PIT lens for close up motorbike and cars with shallow DOF, i know mFT struggles as opposed to FF equiv where they can have a true F1.4..

Steer me...

Rumor has it that Olympus are going to be releasing some f/1.0 primes!!!

But for now the Voiglander f/0.95 lenses are the fastest.

There is the Panasonic 25mm f/1.4 which is very nice.

However, I've just got hold of the Oly 75mm and the subject isolation on that is fantastic.

Yes, the legendary 25mm/1.4 and the 42.4/1.2 you referred to in your own post.

Plus a few 1.7s, but they're probably not fast enough for you if 1.8 is too slow.

Yeah i think the Nocti seems like the best bet, i keep loading that and the 40-150 into my basket LOL..... i like the Voight but manual focus may not be for me at the moment. I know Steve Huff said it was a specialist lens with very shallow DOF

Now the 75MM mmmmm bit long for me, and expensive. id rather have the Nocti i think. But it amazes me how much blur it gives...

I think what i need to do is concentrate on my distances VS focal length as you know that plays a massive part in how mucho burr we get.... i think when i took some this weekend i was too close, Still learning

Hi, have you considered Think Tank TurnStyle 10 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Think-Tank-TurnStyle-Charcoal-Sling/dp/B00EOT93L0/ref=pd_ybh_3

Like probably most of us on here, I have a multitude of various camera bags (mainly for my Full frame DSLR systems), many of which are large and heavy. For my Olympus M43 set up which I'm using more and more now, I've been using a Lowepro DSLR Video Pack 250AW, but my 40-150 F2.8 Pro lens is just a little too long to comfortably fit without a bulge in the bag top. I'm therefore looking for a decent day bag (if one exists) that is as small as possible but can comfortably carry the following please (yeah I know - I don't want much do I) :
  • Olympus OMD-EM1 with Grip and 12-40 F2.8 Pro Attached
  • Olympus 7-14 F2.8 Pro
  • Olympus 40-150 F2.8 Pro
  • Olympus 1.4 Teleconverter
  • Olympus 17mm F1.8 or Panasonic Leica 25mm F1.4 (I carry either - not both at the same time).
  • Space for an Ipad Air II
  • Space for my Lee Sev5n Filter system (holder and 5 filters)
  • A "day Pack" compartment for odds and sods (cables, Chargers, spare batteries, Keys etc.)
Like I say, the current bag is "almost" perfect, just a bit too shallow for the 40-150. Anyone any suggestions please. Want to keep it as small and light as possible so that it can be my travel pack and go in overhead luggage on holidays abroad.

Thanks.

I now have a lovely M5 ii in my possession ready for my holiday tomorrow. I was looking forward to reading the manual on the 13 hours flight, but managed to read it whilst I had a cup of tea!!

I've just discovered there is a bit more on the manual on the disk - phew! There is so much functionality in this little camera!

You'll be ready to use it by the time you get back.

There's a nice book on Amazon Dave Thorpe I think, he has some good settings I use only a couple of quid...

Thanks I'll look into that. So far I have just changed the function button (2 I think) to change ISO. I'm used to using Manual, and am a bit disappointed it won't let me use Auto ISO in Manual. It seems easier to change it with the function button with the camera at my eye, rather than the 1/2 switch.

I've been experimenting and it looks like it records RAW even on the Scene settings too which is good - was playing with the night scenes last night. I can see the tap of the screen to focus and shoot is great for street photography too... Really enjoying this camera :)

Amateur photographer had a camera set up feature 26th setp issue.
The Oly bit was about using live bulb/time.

Brilliant, thank you ianp5a. I haven't watched all of it, but enough to see he thought I could have auto ISO in manual. Digging a little in the menus, I see you can set which modes use auto ISO. I'm happier now :) I'll watch more later.

Thanks (y)

Has anyone got the p42.5 f1.2 ? I keep looking at it ...then my sensible head says get the f1.7 instead for a third of the price

Sensible would have been to keep the 45/1.8 ;) :p

Since when did anybody apply sense to camera purchases? We'd all be using 4th hand cameras and Canikon et al would be bust :)

You're not wrong there..then I think " I didn't even use the 45 much". Bonkers looking at the f1.2 on that basis :wacky:

Well I've just been messing with my dads D800E and the low light ability of that monster was amazing, I took pictures in a dark room of flowers and they looked like bloody sun was shining, I so want that Nocticron but I,ll buy a D750 first to compliment the Olympus.
Want list is
42.5
40-150 pro
300mm F4
nIkon D750. 24-120
400mm FX F3.5

You'd spend that on a camera because 'it can take pictures in the dark?' lol Could you not just take pictures in the light or buy a flash? :)

It was only a wish list, nothing more. I take sport macro and the odd landscape, my next purchase will be the 40-150 pro

I've been thinking about a new camera body. Currently using an E-M5 but fancy an em1 or em5ii.
Do they both use the same sensor? If so is there any real difference in rendering? Has anyone had both?
The panasonics have a cool feature with focus selection, if the camera is up to the eye, you can move the focus point about with your thumb on the lcd screen and not have to use the buttons, does the em5ii have this? I've struggled with the em5 and moving the focus point around, not sure if it's the size or placing of the buttons or their spongy feel?

The mark 2 doesn't have the eye level focus point touch control. Yet. Maybe I'll come in firmware.
I upgraded from the mark 1, and they have improved the EM5ii ergonomics enormously. The buttons are better placed and are responsive. The 2x2 dial system as introduced with the EM1 and EP5 saves a whole lot of fiddling. Exposure bracketing is available with 1 press. Not 14 presses as on the mark 1. The mini flash has full swivel and bounce. Wifi and the app let me post pictures every evening directly. As well as giving it remote control and remote viewfinder. For manual lenses, focus peaking I find essential. Time lapse and Live composite are also helpful. It is also 4.6mm shorter than the mark 1.

Upcoming focus bracketing and customising of the SCP in the firmware upgrade is a bonus.

You can tell the EM5 mark one was their first OM-D. 4 OM-Ds later they have come a long way.

I agree, I never really got along with my EM5, but moving to the EM1 was the point I knew mirrorless had come of age. It's all the little things that add up to make the whole experience so much better. I'd say both the EM1 and EM5ii would be a good upgrade.
