Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

How much did you sell your 12-35 for, and how much was the price difference to get the 12-40? Interested in switching over, though don't really have the funds to do it if the difference is too big!

That was some while ago now, I think it sold for around £540 (not on this forum). I purchased one of the first 12-40 just after the release of the E-M1, got a bit of a deal from SRS at the time as it was unboxed one from an E-M1 kit.

Having been through this lot and some more besides, I have now settled with the EM-1, Panny 7-14, Oly 12-40, Oly 40-150R, Oly 4/3 50-200 SWD + 1.4 TC. Thus I have total coverage from 14-560 in 35mm terms with 4 lenses. I still have my legacy Zuikos, the best of which is the 100 2.8, which is a cracker. I also have a Tokina 300mm f2.8 but I'm going to sell that. As a go anywhere camera I have a Sony RX 100 and I can fit all of that in a small Kata bag.

Is it any good and will you be advertising it in the classifieds here?

Oh, right, thanks helpful llama :banghead: It's been one of those days.
Yes it is very good.... but heavy, i'll post a few pics in the appropriate forum if anyone is interested.

I've got myself the 45mm today and its first time i've used a E-M5 in a very long time,
In the auto mode the live view and touchscreen work yet if i use A,S,M modes the live view and touchscreen are all gone obviously its just a setting but where do i go to set the live view on the rear LCD with eye sensor detect swapping it over if needed

If i press info i get all SCP menu and spirit level stuff yet not the view of what my lens is actually looking at.. Unless im in auto mode.

I own the 9-18mm and recently tried the P7-14mm. I liked the crazy wide of the 7mm. And was surprised that it wasn't too big. As I'd feared. I also liked that you didn't have to unlock it like the 9-18mm.
However I'd still go for the 9-18mm because:
  • 9mm is still mad wide.
  • 18mm is a great walkabout focal length. Street, night etc.
  • It's so small that, when mounted as your only lens, is unobtrusive to carry around.
  • Cheaper.

I haven't used the 9-18 personally, my friend had one. Haven't got proper comparisons of the same shot etc, though from what I remember discussing with him, is that the 7-14 produced sharper pictures throughout the whole frame compared to the 9-18. Though, the 9-18 handles lens flare a lot better than the 7-14, if I shoot anywhere near the sun, it'll catch it, a little patience and PP in Lightroom/PS can cure it, but it's not desirable.

I personally don't regret buying the 7-14 over the 9-18, it was my 2nd m43 lens. I appreciate the 7mm length as compared to 9mm, makes a huge difference at the wide end. The constant f4 is handy at times. It's well built, compared to the 9-18, which I think, feels like a toy. Sharp images, especially at around f5.6-8

Cheers guys, 9mm is equivalent to my widest lens at the moment where sometimes (and I mean sometimes) I feel I could use wider. Also I'd lose a stop or two but for what I'd use it for wouldn't really matter (apart from night shooting but I could go specialist for that). I tink the Oly is for me.

EM5 MkII arrived earlier along with the 12-40 - good service from SRS thank you very much. Extremely Apple'esque packaging, and very nice to open.

The camera feels very solid, the top plate dials and buttons feel very premium and a big improvement on what I remember of the original. I have seen some reviewers and forum members mention the ease at which the front dial spins and by default this is set to exposure comp - so I changed it to swap with aperture control instead just incase I do nudge it.

I like solid chunky cameras so am not put off by the front heavy weight when fitted with the 12-40 but some people may be - I don't remember feeling it quite so much on the E-M1. By the time the battery charged up it was getting dark, so just grabbed a couple of snaps...

I see you've lost none of your talent, Alan! Three nice shots there. Douglas is a real cutie! I'm glad you're pleased so far.

Love the second tulip one, although I might have been tempted to stick a CPL on to give those clouds some oomf.

Tell you what, if the shutter speed was just a little bit longer so the lady on the left was blurred that would be an absolute cracker!

One from a walk around Oxford with the EM1 and 12-40 pro while the wife was in the shops, totally out of my comfort zone this sort of shooting.

Agreed, I have never been comfortable getting this close to a stranger to take their photo - I really like the composition and feel of the shot - also agreed about dragging the shutter a bit more (she is a little blurred already).

Thanks for all the lens suggestions.

The 12-40 2.8 will do most of want I want and will probably live on the camera most of the time. I can see myself buying another P20 (had 4 of these already since the first one on my launch day GF1!) as there is something magical about it IMHO. But I would also like to try the 17 & 25mm - akin to the traditional 35 and 50 on FF.

I have had a couple of the O45 1.8s in the past, it's a great lens but never really found that it was a focal length I warmed too. I also had the O75 which rendered bokeh beautifully - but again found it a bit of an odd length.

My preference always seems to be down the wide end of the spectrum - fast primes too. I am being strangely drawn to the 42.5 Nocti :)

Ah, the Nocticron....the grail of all that is GAS-like!

In all seriousness, would the FL be that different from the 45 you mentioned (yes, I know eq. Fl of 85 to 90!)? On FF, I loved 35, 50 and 85 so completely understand the attraction of it...

In all honesty, I will probably get another O45 - I really liked it, and seeing as I would probably still not use it much seems far more sensible than having a £1000 tied up in a little used lens.

I should do it more, the chap was quite happy me taking his picture still felt weird. Shame id didn't do one with a slower shutter speed, still something to remember next time.

I do have the O45 I use a lot for the grandkids when they are indoors tend to use the 12-40 when I'm out and about.

Two from yesterday. First real outing with the E-M5MarkII. And a brand new Olympus 40-150 f2.8. The lens it was about 2 1/2 hours old and I think I have fallen in love.

Thanks for looking.

Nice shots Richard, tis a great lens for sure and I love mine also. ;)

Last weeks finds when I was trying out a possible holiday macro set up. I am trying to keep the size of my camera kit quite small when I go on holiday to Canada in summer. I of course want to be able to shoot macro if I get the time. I need a smaller light set up I think.

The lens and tubes pack small but the diffuser and flash do not.

Really like the first shot of primrose the tortoise - the second one doesn't quite work for me.
The sunflower is awesome - composition, colours and bokeh all superb.
The P20 really is a special lens.

Top marks for SRS Microsystems - after raising this anomaly with them - and pointing out I bought an EM5 Mk2 from the on Thursday and never saw this bundle appear, they have apologised, honoured it and are sending the battery and card to me in the post.

Great customer service - thank you very much (y)

I finally got my E-M5 back from olympus today. It has taken them 4 weeks to replace a top dial! It has been to Portugal, but even still, it's a long time
