LOL, now 15 years ago I'd have said send the cleaner here  j/k ;)

First impressions :D

There's no firkin manual in the box. With all the buttons that's going to be a problem  On that subject most seem to be two handed operations, totally different from the 20D.

The shutter's a LOT quieter than the 20D. I haven't even engaged hyperdrive yet, I've found it but showed great restraint.

But it just feels right, I don't know what it is but it just sits naturally in the hand, beautifully balanced with the 17-40, can't wait to get the 70-200 onto it tomorrow.

And as requested two really quick pics, these were ISO 800 before I found how to change it. Seems noisier than the 20D which I suppose isn't that surprising.

And a 100% crop with the 17-40, no processing at all.

Congratulations, atleast it all appears to be in working order:) - took your time, and yes you cannot imagine my jealousy(y)

Congrats on the new camera :)

Guess you got it from

James Cumpsty

According to the exif anyway ;)

Where are you seeing that Robert, (EDIT: Dont worry, downloaded opanda and found it) according to Canon exif it says owner unknown. But if it is who you say then I may need to have a quick chat with the retailer :cautious: I was aassured low usage by an amateur. Cant be too many guys with that name

Use photoshop for the file info - its got the details there.

Got a link from IanC, did the job perfectly. Shows up as 24K which is a bit more than I was led to believe but still perfectly acceptable for this. Warranty anyway ;) Now to sort out how to change the name :bang:

24K is nowt! To change the user name:-

Load the Canon software onto your PC from the CDs. Connect your camera to the PC with either firewire or USB cable.

Under the Canon programme group on your PC open 'Camera Window' and you can change the user name. While you're there have a look at the personal functions you can set. Personal Function 21 sets a quiet shutter mode (in Single Shot mode only) Surprisingly, most of the noise doesn't come from the mirror or shutter, it comes from the shutter blinds winding back and resetting for the next shot. In this quiet mode, the shutter doesn't reset until you take your finger off the shutter button, and it's extremely quiet. Great for wildlife and keeping a low profile.

Most of the usual stuff I've found, ISO, focus point/mode, jpeg/raw, metering mode and so on. Loads of fun working out which combo of buttons to press :bonk:

Once you've worked out how the designers head worked it's not too bad but I'll need to know what happens if you set more than one of the custom functions.

Anyone using anything other than canon batteries for this thing? I'll need a spare, maybe two depending on how many shots you get from them.

The battery life is awesome anyway. I haven't found the need for a spare yet. Just be aware if you get a non-Canon one, I'm led to believe the battery doesn't have the weather seals.... which might be a consideration?

Can I ask how much it was?

I think you should have a word with the seller, as theres a difference between amateur usage and 24,000 shots by a pro who shoots robbie williams.

Just see if they'll give you a little refund - it won't hurt :D

as for batteries, I believe (from what I've heard), that black something or other batteries are weather sealed - (Black diamond?)

I got to agree with CT dod the battery life is awesome.

I was going to get a spare but didn't and not had any need for one........I suppose it's always handy to have a backup just in case though;)

It was just the market price for these. I'm happy. I'm not going to go and argue with them, there was no guarantee of shots taken and I don't think it's excessive on a shutter rated at 200,000. Especially considering there's a waranty I think I got a fair deal.

I've ordered a battery as back up. If I find I don't need it I'll sell it on again. Thought it was better to as I have no idea what condition this one is actually in at this stage.

Update, I mailed Mr Cumpsty and got a very informative reply. Looks like the shots are about right, he sold it for a 5D as he wanted full frame, he even told me how much he got for it. The retailer made about 50% which to be honest isn't excessive given they provide a warranty etc and take all the risk.

So, the cams used to shooting celebs, hope I can do it justice :D

*&!!$%**** It's got to go back :annoyed: :annoyed:

Got a chance to test it properly last night and theres some sort of light banding on the sensor. Tried a few lenses and it's apparent on all of them. Only reason it didn't show on the earlier shot was the relatively low contrast.

Spoke to them and they were very helpful, send it back and they will arrange for sensor to be replaced. :(

One for the legal eagles. Under the distance selling regs would I actually be entitled to just send this back and ask for a refund??

Have you asked for and been refused a refund?
If you paid by credit card the card company may be able to advise you.

Gutted for you mate. :(

Have a look at this PDF file from the OFT.

I'd get a refund and the sooner the better. How do you know it isn't the processor? Let's be real about this, they've misrepresented the goods to you both on the amateur status of the previous owner and the number of shutter actuations. Common sense says that the pro status of the previous owner who they bought the camera from must be known to them. If private users can quickly ascertain the number of actuations the camera has had, you'd have a hard time convincing me that a specialist dealer wouldn't check anyway. All that apart, you have a strong case anyway for showing that the goods have been misrepresented to you, whether wilfully or not.

I wouldn't accept any offers of repair etc., you're only weakening your position on a refund, and this camera could be nothing but trouble in the long term.

That's really gutting news. I hope you can find another without too much hassle.

On the subject of the battery, I took nearly 1400 shots on saturday without the meter moving off full. I have no idea how many it will do but I wouldn't be surprised to see 2000 frames without heavy use of the LCD.
