I don't mind the van. I know it might appear jarringly contemporary in comparison with the boat, but in time it will age and place the picture at the point it was made. Imagine if the picture had been made sixty years ago and it was a Morris van or something - it would add a sense of nostagia and add to the feel of the photo. The modern van will do the same in time.

Of course, were I a photo club competition judge, the I would complain that the white van at the edge of the frame is pulling my eye away from the boat. I'm not such a judge though, and it doesn't. :)
 
I think the van shows this part of Hastings as it is, a real working beach and a really great place to visit with a camera. :)
