Are you cropping much? (I'm wondering about the possibility of getting greater DoF, if you wanted it, which you might not of course. )

Are those dust spots on the sensor?

Not much cropping at all on this one, and yeah they are sensor spots. I've since had the rocket blower out but haven't done a test shot to see of I got rid of them.

You might want to try taking shots of the same subject at several distances/framings/magnifications (with the same aperture) and then cropping to the framing you want to see how far you can go to increase DoF while retaining adequate detail/noise control.
