Not as artistic as Neil Burnell's superb shots, but I'm pleased with these from this morning. They're Yorkshire's rarest butterfly, being confined to 3 sites, each of them rather small, so they're in a bit of a precarious position. There were plenty on the wing this morning though, and a couple allowed a close approach for photos.

Thanks for looking,

Beautiful

3 Lovely shots there and always worth it to see them.

You're so lucky. We don't get them in the south.

Thanks all!

Where in the south are you? Bentley Wood in Wiltshire is a well-known site for them.

*EDIT* It's Bentley Wood in Hampshire which is the Pearl-bordered site!

Between Chichester and Portsmouth.

Between Chichester and Portsmouth.

Assuming you're about halfway between, then there's a site approximately 30 minutes drive from you, Rewell Wood near Arundel. This is one of the Sussex strongholds for this species, which is sadly in decline throughout the UK.

For a bit more information have a look at the Sussex butterflies website.

Cheers,

Dave
