Photoshop and PNG

Hi all.
I have been asked to design a front page for a story of war using my aircraft images , i need these to layer over a sunset image also in my files.
Can someone offer me a link please to a good tutorial on processing a jpeg image to PNG. In other words, How To Cut Out an Image, Remove & Delete the Background

I know the basics but its hard doing an aircraft. Youtube have a few but none seem to have good narration.

ALSO. Can some one check the image and tell me if i have these settings correct.. Thanks.

1. Open JPEG image on editing application of your choice.
2. Save as PNG.

File -> Export -> Choose PNG and make sure transparent is selected.

Open each file as a layer in the same image.

This has nothing to do with file format. Photoshop will select the edges of the required parts of the image in the same way regardless of the file format.

The colour settings appear to be ok.
