Pic(s) you took today - an open thread

Hi, my lucky day today. Three squirrels came several times over the day :

The female at the feeder, another one on the ground:

This one moved up to the feeder later, and checked the ground :

A happy ending to my pre-amp drama: Yesterday I switched it on, the power-on light did not go on, and I thought it was not working. Today, I switched it it on again,
and held my ear to the casing. I heard a faint humming sound from the power supply, I suppose.

This stopped when I switched it off. I installed a speaker then, switched on the power amp, the frequency splitter and heard the sound from my tuner !

So I was very happy.

I didn't see the earlier part of the amp story, but something that may be useful.
Most modern amps will shut down if there is a short or fault on the speakers.
However, some amps protection circuits are not what they should be, ie some later Denon AV amps will not always protect against a speaker cable short (the 2311 for example) and I have heard of similar in other makes.
It is ALWAYS worth checking speaker cabling for faults, it can easily get trapped under furniture, or wires pulled off by vacuum cleaners etc.

Some amps don't like having no speaker connected, as the voltage on the final transistors can rise above the max acceptable, so an open circuit could be as fatal as a short circuit.

Hi, act 1 of my pre-amp drama I told yesterday. The pre-amp with the faulty power-on lamp is a SANSUI CA-F1.

As you advised, I shall be very careful when cabling the speakers of which there are four, two for treble, two for bass, each set having its own power amp.

I bought this equipment in the early 1980s. It is very dear to me ...

One day when the weather is better I will go down and explore the Wobbly Bottom.

I've taken this tree in the summer but not from this angle. I had to clone out a bit where the tree reached the bush (obviously not literally) and it annoys me as I don't like messing with images in that way. A few steps across and I would have got it right.

Love the little droplets right on the edge.
I do like droplets on grass and it can make for lovely pictures.
I actually saw a nice one today but couldn't get the camera near enough.
I didn't see them untill I opened the pic in Photoshop. I do like them though.
Thanks mate.

I took my camera to the Polling Station this afternoon, but dare not use it, the political situation is now so fractious that I'm really not looking forward to the next 5 years, (politically), last time the Conservatives in our area won by less tha 1,000 votes from the LibDems - this year the LibDems have put so much more effort into their campaign locally that I think they will succeed this time, (versus the Tory effort locally which has been NIL),......... the LibDem candidate is local versus the Conservative one who has just been "airlifted" in......... I'll be staying up all night to watch the BBC

And last but not least, the end of my audio re-installation. Knowing me, Basima looked rather skeptical :

And she was right. I could not get one power amp working. So, I used only one. A politician might have said "We successfully implemented plan B".

One could also say "I failed" ... ---

Hi Bill, it's funny you should say "dare not use it" because the person sitting on the left with the hood, a young woman, (who was representing our local MP) when she saw my camera, chased me down the road and asked if I had taken a photo. When I told her I had she said "You don't have my consent". She was dumbstruck when I
told her that as both she and I were in a public place I didn't need it!
What she needs to do is look up the laws on public photography and if she disagrees with them, well, speak to the person she was representing!!
Back in my press days it was normal to go to the poling station and get shots of the public and normally a local MP posting his/her vote.

I only ever did one polling station job and that was nearly the cause of a strike!

I was working on the advertising side of a large local newspaper group and it was an open secret that I freelanced in the evenings and at weekends. The staff photographers were less than happy about this although I never intruded on their jobs.

There was a by-election in one of the areas we covered and I got a call from the chief photographer which basically was "We've got no one to cover the village {where all the fuss was}. Grab your camera, get a pool car and get over there. I've cleared it with the editor and your boss". So off I went, found the leading candidate present, got the grin and grip shot and went back to head office. I handed in the film, went back to the advertising department and got on with my work. About two hours later, I was called up to the editor's office only to be told that I was never to take press pictures in working hours again, because the Father of the Chapel was furious and threatening action.

To be fair, though, the following week an envelope dropped through our front door. Inside was a cheque for twice the normal rate and a note from the chief photographer with just one word on it: "Thanks". ;)

Most of these people that have issues with someone taking photos with a camera, would most likely not have a problem with someone snapping images from a smartphone....

Whole picture just looking at how close it will focus.

Nice to see a real watch once in a while.

Nice to see a real watch once in a while.

hehehe :D

It's a Cheap Chinese one. I have a small collection of them, all mechanical, but I did read that the mechanisms are quire good, so good in fact that certain higher end Swiss manufacturers buy them in and sell them in their overpriced products. Or at least they did until someone found out. Naughty,
