Right, dead spooky!
 
what makes you think that it is a Raven rather than a Crow Joel?

the bird looks smaller than a raven and the bill less thick and bulky?

did it "croak" rather than the sharp Caw-Caw of a Crow

but I'm not sure I can really tell from the image

Thanks for the comments guys, Bill - it probably is a Crow, come to think of it - at the time I just wrote what I thought it was without really thinking about it !

It was on a nature reserve in Leicestershire and I got bitten by a black fly - or something like that at least, one on the hand which I flicked off and another on my elbow, which also got flicked off - I ran the whole length of a field to get back to my car after that!

But the this shot of the Bird was taken before all that, glad it's "spooky" looking as that was what I thought when I saw it so I tried to capture that.
