I'm wanting to produce my own calendars and have been let down by my print company so wondered if anyone could recommend a good printer capable of printing good quality A3 size calendars... I'm not looking at the likes of DSCL etc as they're too expensive

Thanks

Simon

I stopped with DSCL because they look pretty, but the paper is terrible for getting a pen to work on it - which is a downside for a calendar. I then did a ton of research trying to find a decent A3 calendar supplier and failed miserably. Ended up buying a wire binder and making my own with Permajet FB Delta when it was on offer.

Not overly helpful I know but if you think DSCL is too expensive I think you're going to struggle to get quality for cheaper than them. I will be more than happy to be proven wrong though.

I get mine done by Chameleon Print in Nottingham. They're A3 landscape and binded, can't fault them. I supply the design myself but they would also do this for you if required.

Any digital printing company can do short run printing suitable for calendars.
there are a number in North Wales just google digital printers north wales
And you come up with companies like this https://www.geminidigitalcolour.co.uk/
If any particular company does not do their own finishing, there are just as many specialist print finishers who can make up the printed sheets any way you need them.

There are not that many models of digital printing machines, so the companies that have them are all in the same market place and can be very competitive. So take out a few quotes.
Litho printing is now reserved for long runs, and even they have moved on to direct to plate systems.

I'm really looking for recommendations Terry.. I've already used one company and the quality was disappointing so I'd prefer not to just do a random google search and end up wasting time again.

The quality on digital printing depends almost entirely on the quality of the original files. as in most cases, the operators do not mess with peoples files at all.
The colour and everything else will be as supplied. Most will happily supply a proof page to check everything.
I have seen consecutive jobs come of the press , one brilliant and the next diabolical.

My last two positions, before I retired, including all aspects of print buying with a budgets of several £100.000 of print a year. I always vised printers before asking for quote so see their facilities and see work coming off their presses. I never ever placed a job on someone else's recommendation. The only way to judge a printer is to see how they work and see the results hot off the press. Sample tend to only show their best work. Recommends only come from people who were happy with what they got, good or bad.

That's what I thought until receiving the calendar proof from the last print company.. images were noisy and had severe banding despite them being the same files I've had perfect prints from dozens of times for my gallery prints, in my experience theory doesn't always reflect practice ;-)
