Red robin feeding, help with processing

I really like this photo but I am not too sure on how to process it, I would like to get rid of the barbed wire to start with and perhaps some of the highlights. I have tried in photoshop (using the healing tool but it didn't not work), my knowledge of it is fairly basic and would appreciate any advice/help on how to proceed.

Just a quick edit

sort out the image generally - exposure. shadows, saturation etc., .. the basics

then clone out carefully, (I did not take too much care), the barbed wire

all done in PS or LR

you could then sort out the bg generally
