Was surprised to encounter loads of these up in the Lake District near Keswick last year. Agree very fast, I didn't manage a shot!

well this was a fluke...i had set my camera on manual focus to photo a tree earlier and and didnt set it back so i got very decent focus by mistake although the camera was set on 5.6 and the speed must have been high
i will check that...yes that was5.6@ 1/1250 using 200 iso
i have never got a decent shot of one of these characters and i am happy it came out

same here...even at formby in lancs the sanctuary they were always out of sight!!!
