In light of the tragic news I decided to revisit and reprocess my quick snapshots from a few years ago. They are what they are and sadly I / we won't get to have another go...







Please feel free to share yours
 
You might be able to make a new roof but it will not be the historic roof - it will have a construction that's radically different, using present-day techniques. It will just mimic the inherited outer dimensions. As at York Minster.

And then there's the spire (which wasn't that old, but still damned labour-intensive) ...

I’ve been visiting Paris and photographing Notre Dame de Paris for 14 years. I woke up to a text from a friend saying it had been destroyed.

It is heartbreaking to see the pictures on TV. Even as I type this I’m in Paris waiting for a train. I could just about see ND down the Seine when I was walking to Austerlitz.

The cathedral is probably the most photographed building in my collection.
