We were in Goa a couple of weeks back as some here will know, staying close to Morjim beach. Although the area is now quite touristy there are still a lot of fishing boats that put out from the beach, keeping the local restaurants (and the boat owners) supplied with kingfish and other local delicacies.

We didn't have a lot of free time, but I was able to get down to the beach with the camera one afternoon and a couple of evenings, and during that time one of the fishing boats returned. The boats have to be pushed about 40 or 50 meters back up the beach by the crew, placing wooden runners with strips of car tyre on top, lubricated with something black and slippery - it looks hard work after a long night fishing. I talked with the owner of this boat - many of the boats seem to be crewed by hired hands rather than the owners, some of whom are now well off due to owning beach-front land - and he showed me the kingfish they had caught that trip.
