Riga, Latvia - anyone been?

Looks like you'll have to be the pioneer :D

My great grandparents ,and grandparents all lived there ..be a bit hard to ask them for info though LOL

I was there in early August.
Great place. Try The House of the Blackheads and don't miss the Central Market - it's rather big.

Prices are quite cheap compared with the UK.
Trams are very good, worth getting a pass for them.

Noted Blackheads thanks - looks like a great spot :D

Market noted too, though without a pun :)

Stockpot in Gertrudes Iela was an interesting 'restaurant' :)
Very cheap, communal tables, home made food, worth looking at the reviews.

I would say that Tallin is a 'nicer' medieval town, Riga is more of a modern city with Soviet overtones.

BTW, the market is huge outside as well, look out for the fruit and flowers! Biggest market in Europe.

Just Booked a 5 day trip in two weeks here for silly cheap money - the place looks interesting for photos, but I'm just wondering if any of you well traveled folk have any specific idea / recommendations ??? :)

Cheers

Dave
I've been there for a wedding. Small town that could be done in two days really
