After a generally rainy week, there has been an outcrop of fungi on the grass verges near me.

Field mushrooms were the commonest, with some rounded caps and some well-expanded.

Rather unexpectedly I found a patch of Ceps (Porcini):

There were also several Brown Rollrims, scattered along the verges, associated with Birch trees.

The first two are normally eminently edible, but I am loth to pick them from the roadside! The Brown Rollrim is one of those which is edible or not, depending who you ask.

The second looks like Butyriboletus appendiculatus or oak bolete or butter bolete. Also edible and similar to ceps. Different cap and pore colour and the membrane of the caps slightly hangs over the edge of the pores.

Thanks! I have found the Oak Bolete further up the hill near the woods.

Yum! I like Ceps - just add a little garlic and butter. :)
