Roller on the canal bridge.

I've been looking at this roller for a while, wondering if I can return in better light.
It would have to be late in the day and later in the year before the sun gets far enough North-west.

A couple of days ago, the light was not as harsh, I thought it looked detailed enough (and I wanted to test my new-to-me camera).
It's a roller on the edge of a bridge on the Rochdale canal, which is on a bend in the canal. The tow ropes of the horse drawn barges have left deep cuts in the stonework.
Here and there can be seen other solutions to this problem, generally iron strips in a similar position. This roller appears to be fully functional today, although its partner on the other side of the bridge is long gone.
