A guitar porn thread was mentioned just now so I thought I'd get the show on the road...

Nice. The trick is controlling the light because they're shiny buggers.

a few of mine Gibson 335 dot- Gretsch Dobro Resonator- Fender Telecaster and a Martin Smith electro acoustic all played through my Vox AC 30 and Fender Hot-rod Deluxe Mk 3 and few pedals

NO the heater does NOT work, but thanks to all who may be concerned, that's where I keep my plectrums and bottle neck slides

Les ;)

That 335 looks yummy, and I have a massive soft spot for Teles.

Its around 5 years old and the tone is like a bell it really rings , 57 classic Humbucker pickups - I too love my Telecaster totally different sound
I play Blues and thought the investment in a 335 was a worthy one - over a Gibson Les Paul, which I did consider, the Gretsch Dobro tuned in open D for the slide and it really sounds great

I play a lot of blues too, but I don't have your budget! Mostly acoustic these days too - I haven't plugged in an electric in months, but I might have to today.

I try to emulate BB King, Hence the 335, the guitars I own have been collected over a 10 year period, the Gretsch Dobro has a real blues tone, I use this for slide only - I don't think I've picked up the Fender Tele in weeks, which is a shame as it sounds really great when twinned with the AC 30- maybe I'll give it a go later on, I did think think about selling it to help fund a Gibson Les Paul, but cannot justify the cost of an LP

too many expensive hobbies lol

If I could have only one electric it'd be a Tele - just so versatile. I'd love a nice LP, but, as you say, two expensive hobbies do not mix - especially with kids!

Is your the Squire Tele? I heard good things about them

Yes, but I've sold it now for the whole "mostly playing acoustic" reason. They are remarkable for the money. I don't like to overly gush, but they're very good. Tonerider pups and decent enough electrics and flawlessly finished.

Shame to sell I bet you miss it, as I said I was considering selling my Fender, but I can't bear to loose it + I'd probably buy another after a month or so lol

Ohhhhhh imma getting mine in the studio soon here's a list :)

1. 71 Gibson les Paul
2. Taylor 414 CE ltd edition
3. Gibson sg custom airbrushed
4. Washburn falcon

Yum!

Les, what tuning do you use for slide? I am crap at the guitar unless it's tuned to an open E, then I can get a vague tune out of the things! I am more a bassist but haven't played for ages - fingers have forgotten where to go... In fact, I haven't played since the op and that was back in September '12.

I really must buy something for open tuning slide.

I use an Open D tuning and a brass slide - with heavy gauge strings on the Gretsch for that deep south blues sound

On the Gibson / Fender I use super slinky 008 gauge

Les ;)

any old acoustic guitar will do the job, I started open tuning with a £70 guitar from Argos - nothing beats the sound of a dedicated Dobro/Resonator though

That's almost no strings at all. I don't think I would be able to feel them! 11s as a minimum for me.

Steve.

I don't gig anymore- I like to be able to bend the strings as being a Blues player it's a must for me, I did have 009 on the Telecaster, but changed to the 008 last week

Surely you can bend 10's?

On my Gretsch and my Tele I use 11 to 49 strings. They are the heaviest gauge I can find with an unwound third as I like to be able to bend that by a couple of semi-tones.

If I play someone elses guitar with 009s on, it just feels like loose elastic bands!

Just the opposite for me Steve, bottom E on the dobro is 56 Gauge  I too prefer an un-wound 3rd on the others
