Shugpug's 1st 52 - Week 52 - Decoration - Complete!

Nice use of a slow shutter speed, it works well Alex

The movement against the sharpness of the keys looks great. Nice capture.

Really like the blurry hands, it makes for a much more dynamic shot, better than a frozen hand shot.

Like the POV and the blurry hands a great shot for ability.

Ability is a nice image, a little too low key for my personal taste but I do like the way you've captured the hand movements.

Broken - I too love the sunset, I think you chose the right image for the theme for the main thread
Ability - The blurred hands do give a feel of playing rather than a posed shot

Nice shot, nice to see the hand movement, it adds some idea of sound....If that makes sense for a photo.

Very much agree - association of the senses. I have a vague memory of studying this is psychology, but can't remember the correct term... But yes - seeing movement of the hands on the keys is associated with the sound of the piano. There's a (silent) video used to demo the effect with something dropping - a large number of respondents report hearing it hit the ground.

Really like this for Ability. Great idea [emoji4]

Thank you all!

I would tend to agree... I have asked for a speedlight for my birthday, but for now I am making do with either natural or household lights.

Blurred hands make the shot, well done!

Well - I went and found me some winter! Or at least some snow - it really wasn't that cold! This is from the Mary Jane Falls trail (and Las Vegas being a legal recreational consumption state (albeit not in public areas) - mary jane was indeed sniffable more than once on the hike...

Today was also a rare fairly cloudy day - I had a long-ish lens (100-300 equivalent) with me, but ended up not needing it as there were enough breaks in the cloud to get some wider shots. I've not decided what to put in the main thread yet - I also had a 6x6 film camera with FP4+ which I'll process in the next few hours and probably scan tomorrow.

It's a short but steep hike about 45 minutes drive out of Vegas in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, with some great views on the way up.

The top of the trail leads to what can be quite a spectacular waterfall in spring or (proper!) winter (albeit it would be a very sketchy hike up if there were a significant amount of snow). It dries up in the summer, but the Spring Mountains are at least significantly cooler (highs in the touristy areas are in the mid-20s centigrade) than the valley! We climbed Charleston Peak last summer in early July and there was still snow near the summit.

The falls at this time of year are fueled by snow-melt and it's been a bad year for the local ski resort, so the falls are more of a trickle... I also forgot my big-stop so had no chance at all of showing any falling water proper - but there's still a big pile of ice and icicles at the bottom of the main fall.

And at the bottom of a smaller fall, the ice is more accessible, and you can see where the falling water is melting the ice away fairly rapidly.

However - that's it for now. I'm off to break out the microphen and changing bag...

Loving all the winter shots, great to see the difference between the ice and non iced areas.

Great set Alex.
All nice images but the one on the main page is a cracker!

Ability - Nicely captured and thought out image

Winter - No1 for me fits the theme perfectly

Really interesting shots.. well captured. The b&w is imo the best choice.

Hi Alex

Your ability to play the piano is greater than mine, used to be able to play 3 blind mice when a youngster, with 1 finger. Like the blur of the hands against the mainly B&W of the rest of the photo.

Winter, using b&W to clean an image up is a good idea, nice to see the other shots for context.

Pete

Lovely icy stuff! I wish you'd number them!

My fave is the one with the figure in blue for scale :)

I actually really like the colour shots with the "dirty" snow. All fine wintry photos,

Thank you - that was my safety shot :D

Agree they are all great, but yes the main one in the thread is a cracking shot.

Thank you - I had a lot more time to practice in my last job and was starting to feel relatively comfortable again. Daily practice is definitely required to build up the finger strength and dexterity.

Thank you - I'm not sure I'll tell Mrs SP she makes a good scale  :$ I'll do my best to remember to number them in future.

Great set of pictures, much more wintery than here.

Only in the mountains - we're going to be paddling in shorts and t-shirts tomorrow!

I actually really like the colour shots with the "dirty" snow. All fine wintry photos,
All good shots with different variety of perspective, but I agree with the b&w you chose

Thank you both!

When you way Mary Jane, I think of spiderman rather than dope, but I guess I'm getting old ;)
Lots of different shots, but I agree with your selection for the theme.
Works well in B&W.

Thank you!

Looking forward to the new theme tomorrow - is it new tech time as well..?

Great winter shots. I really like the scanned film one!

great set of images my favourite is the one you put on the main thread

I really like all of the winter shots and the mono version is a particular favourite.

I like your shot for wild because of your 180 degree turn shot. Wonderful colours and such a juxtaposition yet both Wild.
Your sunset image is incredible. Such intense colour.
Another great shot for Broken. Very nice. The colours really make it for me.
Ability - anyone who can play a musical instrument gets my vote.
Winter is a fantastic set of images. It looks nice and warm there but clearly isn't.

Thank you - I'm really glad that the processing I did of the film worked - it is an enjoyable workflow, which definitely helps!

Thank you - warmer than it looked and more than warm enough to walk up in a tee-shirt.

Made it! There's still 62 minutes of Wednesday left here...

As soon as I saw the subject, I knew exactly the book I wanted to depict. Not sure that this quite hits the spot, but I was struggling to think how to show it without parking myself outside a police station... :exit:

These are from my local casino, taken tonight on a very needed unplanned down-day at work due to weather stopping play :( One second shots with either zoom-burst, ICM, or both!

The book, I hope, will be easily recognised...

No idea about the book, but I love the technique!

Nice set Alex, and no idea on the title either.
Unless its something to do with your (slightly odd) Gambling laws?

Great, interesting images.. struggling to come up with the book as well!

Thank you all - on reflection, it might only be obvious of you already have it in mind...

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S Thompson, which pretty much sums up my feelings towards gambling!

Book - I had not heard of the book but can see how the image would suit it. I agree with your choice for the main thread, I like the lights in it.
