Shugpug's 1st 52 - Week 52 - Decoration - Complete!

Super techniques used there, I like the first one best :)

Book
I think they're all pretty good, love the colours, the effects and the link with the theme.

Loving the colours and having two of the same without it being a reflection.
Didn't have a clue on the book, sorry.
Clever take on the book title, I've not read the book but I think I have seen bits of the film, a mixture of drugs and gambling.
Book - I had not heard of the book but can see how the image would suit it. I agree with your choice for the main thread, I like the lights in it.
Great set of shots and info for WINTER. As for BOOK, I like the first of the three. Interesting idea!

Thank you all! Most of the strip is shutting down in the very near future - I'm sure the outliers will follow in the very soon after, and the panic buying is at least as bad as the UK I'm glad I got this in whilst I could!

Transport - only one this week. I've got a few days off work, with abruptly changed plans after the NHL cancelled / suspended all its games and work mandated a <3 hour travel requirement. But - people at work are dropping like flies (self isolations only - so far...) so I'm keeping myself as isolated as possible in the fresh air, and strong downwind of people!

Hopefully not too much of a shoehorn, but walking is a form of transport, and these shoes are transporting no more people...

No more transport here... by Alex Morrison, on Flickr

Only a slight shoe horn Alex :D
That's an interesting take on the theme :)

But I just have to ask why are they there?

That is really bizarre but good take on the theme. Well spotted.

Some of them are perfectly good shoes! I think it is right on theme, nicely captured!

Transport
I like your thinking and the unusual subject. I think I would have concentrated on a smaller area, maybe the end ⅓ of the tree.

Nice different take on the theme and very unusual.

Blimey, there must be one hell of a lot of drug dealers sharing that space !
It's certainly an odd sight.

Thank you all!

Yeah - there are more compositions that could be made certainly. I wish I had had more time there to explore it in better light as well.

Being limited to 3 hours from the phone call to being in work, and needing to be in phone reception at all times has rather limited the range I can go exploring :( Mrs SP and I went out for a walk to escape the cabin fever for a while - people here need to learn what 6' / 2m looks like! The parks are getting much more crowded than normal, and they've even shut the Conservation Area on the doorstep because people weren't respecting the social distancing guidelines  I'm starting to feel like I do in January when the resolutioners come out and steal "my" gym space for a few weeks - but I think this will last a bit longer...

We abandoned the parks, and went for a walk on the pavements instead. The side-roads are dead, but the main roads are still relatively busy - this is through an anti-suicide fence over the nearest motorway for a view of the local casino. We cut through the car park on the way back and got chased off by security! If only they were as keen in the parks!

Definitely interesting times we live in... The overall subject seems to suit a heavy B&W with grain - hopefully I've not gone too far in these?

#1 - a temporary fence at the main entrance

Fence - Nice set, I really like the one you chose for the main thread. It has a cool 1950's/1960's look to it and also illustrates the situation we find ourselves in very nicely. Great job!

Book - Interesting Images nice and colourful. I've never heard of the book sorry

Transport - I took me a while to get this! nicely seen and great take on the theme.

Fence - Nice set of images I think I prefer the 2 nd one personally but they are all good.

I like the processing on all these Alex.
#1 is my favourite though.

I like the grainy processing - adds to the message. I think you chose the right one for the theme.

Never really enjoy grainy processing. This is an exception. Looks like a still from an eighties rock video!

Thank you - it's made me want to try one of the 3200 speed B&W films as I'm liking the look. Possibly useful for current times unfortunately as well.

Interesting to read that people's behaviour over there is similar to here in the UK. Anyway, back to the image. I like your thought process in #2 & #3 but would like to see the wire fence in focus being the theme subject.

Thankfully it had been much better since - but I think being out at the weekend is now a non-starter. I tried one with the fence in focus and the words blurred and one a deep DOF so both were in, but neither of them quite did it for me.

Anyone of these shots are a good pic for the main thread, but do think you picked the right one. Nice and gritty looking shot.
I like the processing on all these Alex.
#1 is my favourite though.

Thank you - it was a toss up between the two of them.

I think #1, and I quite like the grain. There is sufficient fence to have it on theme and topical too.

Thanks all - it's different to what I would normally do - I tend to prefer clean and sharp. But change is growth! Even when it's somewhat forced.

It's a tough call but I think I like no. 3 the best... or maybe 2 . I think they are so different to anything else we've seen on this theme - It jumped out at me on the photo thread. Often we try and remove wire fences and it would never have occurred to me to take shots like this.

I like the processing gives a sinister feel.

A great set, if I had to decide for one it would be #2.

Thank you all for the kind comments. It turns out that working from home is a fairly brutal experience... I do not know how people with kids manage it!

I'm heading up to the "office" today, which will actually be a nice break!

I had this idea when I saw the theme - this is a focus stacked (first time trying this, and I'm going to try again on my days off before Thursday as I don't think I got enough images for the stack looking at the top right of the photo). And this gets the theme in nicely as well :)

Another attempt will be taken - but a placeholder at least!

Lovely detail nice an sharp (sorry).

Thank you!

I wasn't happy with especially the top right of that first attempt, so have taken another - stack of 22 images in PS with both a 10 and a 24mm extension tube on quite a small cactus. Happier with this, but still not completely happy. But - flora, and technique, so there's that.

Sounds like a lot of work went into this one. Nicely done and certainly fits the technical.

Nice image, sounds like a lot of work went into it so well done for sticking at it

You certainly have more patience than me!

A nice high key image Alex.

Great high key image, great processing and stacking!

Thanks all for the kind comments, esp about the Focus Stacking. I'd love to take the credit, but I can honest;ly only say that it was as easy as opening the imagesin PS as layers (option from LR), then edit / auto-align layers followed by edit / auto-merge layers.

All in all about 30 seconds work, with 5-10 mins waiting for the computer to crunch through the processing!

Even the taking the photos was semi-automated with focus bracketingof 10 images each from around the closest and furthest points of the cactus respectively, with a couple more from the mid point thrown in for good measure (which I think is where I failed with the first shot - the DoF with 34mm of extension tube even on a m4/3 lens at f16 is miniscule!)

Time passing... Working from home, and I've set myself a project of capturing the passage of the lock-down with pinhole panoramas, which I thought about using in here as well, but I decided to go for something a little different... A lot of time spent in the front room, in front of the TV... Sorry for the selfie!
