Tall

I like it. It's looks like something you would see at the beginning of an American cop show (CSI Vegas).

Ah.... Blackpool... How I miss it! :ROFLMAO:

I love how it leads your eye through it, the composition works well.
There's something about the light though (or how you've processed it), that contrary to the glitz and glamour makes it look drab and seedy. It was uncomfortable at first glance, but settled nicely.
There is nothing glitzy or glamorous about this part of "Blackpool". Cheap and seedy (here), or expensive and seedy at the nicer end of town - that pretty much sums up this city!
Nice composition for tall with the road as the leading line and the sky works very well with the scene - it's definitely tall and on theme.
I like that tall tower thingy way down the road, and a little motel sign in the FG looking almost as big. Nice compo.
I lol'd. It's like Blackpool only less tacky. :)

Nice composition and an interesting record shot for when you're next back in blighty long term. Esp if you come back to Blackpool and want to remember the high life :)
Thanks all!
Looks like there could be plenty of escorts about around that area though maybe not the type you were thinking of. Nice image it’s just says America to me.
True... Guess I chose the "escort" word badly..! Technically, escorts aren't legal in Clark County (home of both the City and the Strip), but I still wouldn't be surprised if you're right!
A tall structure for sure. I like your composition to include the road as a leading line and other buildings for context.

Don't they just!!

Family motel right next to the strip joint and adult entertainment shop. Definitely Vegas!

The colour range gives it the required level of gaudiness and you have captured all aspects of the area, which initially appears attractive until you notice the seedier elements. Nice leading lines and you are taken through the image.

So here is me playing catch up with comments, it is so nice to see photos from abroad.
Nearby, Kyle canyon looks absolutely stunning, beautifully composed and stunning colours
Fruit, Your apple photo came out as very dark on my monitor
Dirty air, just shows how much pollution we human generate, it seems so surreal to see that strip in that location, surrounded by such minimal vegetation lovely composition and stunning colours. Project dirty bottles is lovely and crisp and beautifully composed.
Rock, WOW stunning, sorry to hear you and the lady had a close call but fab your tests came back negative. The wood and stone compliment each other and look stunning.
Tall, yep its very tall. I have never been to Vegas, it does look a bit like the Emirates, again best shot at night but not somewhere you want to be after dark without a very big friend who has your back ;)

I find pictures of Las Vegas in the daytime quite fascinating. Really well taken and interesting photo. Lots to catch the eye.

Nicely composed and fits the bill. Looking at the signage I'm not surprised you won't go there at night!

Just catching up - glad to hear your tests came back negative.

I love the tones of your stone shot. Looks like golden light too. Would be interesting to see a close up as someone else said - even to block out the background other than the stones too, although I think the colour of the background works well.

Tall - nice leading lines and the balance of the towers either side, as already said. The light is interesting. It looks like the big tower has some reflected light off the mirrored windows of the other buildings. I can understand you being reticent about a night shot! The flamingo is striking, but a little too garish for me.

Thanks Stuart - it's an interesting area that's for sure!

Thanks Heather - comparing Vegas with the Emirates is definitely fair. I passed through Dubai a few years ago. The major difference is that there were a good number of very attractive older buildings interspersed with the modern opulence - where here, nothing is older than the early 1900s. And the humidity in Dubai - dear god the humidity... I definitely prefer a desert to a coast line if I have to be somewhere stupid hot!

Thanks!
Very American, your choice for the theme, but I think I actually prefer the flamingo somehow.
Thanks Tim - it's suitably tasteless (a comment on Vegas - not you!!)

Thanks - garish is definitely the word! The Strat's towers lights were on - the whole tower becomes an illuminated beacon at night!

Week 5 - Snapper's Choice

Sorry for the pause in participation - I am lucky enough to not be under any real lock-down, so Mrs SP and I took the opportunity to pop over to Arizona for a spot of paddling and hiking. However -using our VPN whilst we were away resulted in the "banned IP" message on log in :(

This is Watson Lake - an artificial reservoir to serve Prescott. One end is full of these fascinating granite boulders, which is a perfect area to explore on a paddle board!

We took the opportunity on launch to get some images from the shore with our proper cameras - a little action camera or the phone from the board itself just isn't quite the same!

The ducks and geese around the launch ramp cared very little for our presence, and are clearly very used to being around people...

But the advantage of taking the phone with you (in a dry bag!) is that it does allow for some interesting backgrounds!

The snow had just about melted at this lake - we went on to Lynx Lake the day after and were paddling in ice and snow - we have another layer on under the wetsuits which despite the bright sunshine, was needed!

I really like those!

You'll notice how the reflection is always at least a stop darker. If you brigthen it to match the upper half it will look even better! Maybe remove whatever that is creeping into the bottom left corner?

I love these images but agree with Dave, I think your shadow is creeping into the bottom left hand corner of the 2nd one, the ducks appear to be swimming faster than your wife can paddle.. ;) :ROFLMAO: . stunning images. Thumbs up from me.

Good point - something I knew once, and now am remembering... And that would be the shadow of my hand in the corner  Something you would think I would remember by now! Composition is definitely a bit more challenging from a moving, and somewhat unstable, board against a moving, and somewhat unstable subject... Lining up the subject, background and camera is something of a challenge! Remembering where your own shadow is was a challenge too far on this occasion!

Thanks Heather. The boards definitely aren't fast - we plan on ~2 miles an hour on flat water with no wind. Ducks could probably overtake us without much effort :D

I've tried a quick play to remove the shadow and brighten up the reflection. I won't update the main thread, but this will be the one I keep.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious!!

Well done for getting the shot on a wobbly board, totally different light to what we are getting at the moment I think we are all a bit jealous

Great scenery to enjoy, you definitely get interesting shapes with the background. Would have liked a full shadow of Mrs SP, not sure if that was achievable with the sun position?
