1, 2 and 5 are very competent shots, good technique.

I can see exactly what you were trying to do with #3 but the angles not quite right, the bikes too close to the bottom for the composition to work for me.

#4's pretty good too but maybe a bit close to the left of the frame?
 
In terms of getting a sharp, well exposed shot with some movement in it - you've got it nailed here.

Your composition like Dod says is what needs sorting out now. You can either try for that in camera (might be hard with a 40D - you lack widely placed *fast* focus points that you need) or leave a bit of breathing space when you shoot and crop :)

Have a look at the tutorial on this forum for "rule of thirds", use that as your composition guideline - you'll be surprised how well it works (y)
