I don't know anything about portrait photography, but this has that lovely warm happy feel about it, and the natural spotlight effect on the subject with the dark background is effective.
Nice well lit shot - my only comment is that I find the reflection of the light in the sunglasses a bit distracting. Might look better if it was cloned out?
