Some critters from a recent holiday

All good shots there, David. The background of the spider is a bit distracting but I'd guess you did not have a lot of time to get the photo.

The gecko and the praying mantis are excellent, especially the gecko.

Nice shots davie, I like how you got the mantis to pose for you !

Hi and welcome to TP and the macro section.
All nice shots considering where you was and the opportunity to get them.
No idea if macro is your thing but I'd be happy with all 3.
As above, shame about the messy BG in No1 but still a lovely looking jumper.
No2 really nice how the gecko goes oof towards the back of the shot.
No3 great pose and I'd take a guess the the mantis was on guard giving you time to get that shot.
Well done.
Also we'd like to know if you used flash, if it was diffused and other camera settings.
Will we be seeing you in this section more regularly?

Thanks all, appreciate the positive comments. Hope to throw more up here as and when I find something I sort-of like!

Totally agree about the distracting BG in no1... I tried to tidy it up the best I could in photoshop - but ended up ruining it completely. It's still my favourite though!

There was no flash used (saving for a ring flash); simply AV mode down to f/2.8 in them all IIRC - on a lowly 550D.
