Can you please explain this for me: when I was young, the Flying Scotsman was 4472 but now it seems to be 60103. Is it that 4472 was an LNER number but 60103 is BR or something?

Flying Scotsman was built in 1923 for the London & North Eastern Railway to a Great Northern Railway design so was numbered into the GNR number series as 4472, the number carried until 1946 when the LNER renumbered all its locos. Under this renumbering Flying Scotsman became loco number 103 and, when the railways were nationalised in 1948, 60000 was added to ex-LNER loco numbers so she became 60103.

Thanks for that, I now understand. Very nice train and photos.

Honours shared Jeff, first two are cracking photos

Second one is a good keeper, I like it more than the first because of the wee snake with the carriages.

Fascinating to see such a long sleek loco foreshortened in that way. And that lens must be a cracker. Thanks you.
