Yes
An unknown wasp
I'll stick my neck out a little here and suggest that, due to the darker colours its a "vespula" a small group of social wasps.
And including the solitary wasps.

Rather than a "Vespinae" (yellow jackets / true wasps inc. Hornets)
But at the end of the day, they are all Hymenoptera

Cracking set Alf (y)

Thanks Chris
I have been looking again and many similiar species are not shown as being this far North and I think this could be ancistrocerus scoticus

I know a bit about wasps and would like a better book I have shot a wide variety of species so far but aim for more

Nice set Alf (y)
ancistrocerus scoticus
Although I'm not convinced on that, the one in your image doesn't have the bulging abdomen that seems indicative of those?
