Spent this afternoon with a kingfisher

I'd normally be photographing professional football on a Saturday afternoon but with the closedown of the season I had a free day. So I went looking for a kingfisher.

This was only the second time I've ever seen one, the previous time was just seconds, this one paid me three visits and hung around for a good while each time - it was a very decent afternoon

Lovely to see and should be just about to start looking for nesting sites now.

The local expert told me that she will probably be around for another couple of weeks - I've got nothing else to do on Saturday's now so might be back next weekend

Hopefully longer and with a mate and chicks later ... be wary of disturbing any possible nesting. :)

It sure is and to get that picture when it was only your second encounter with a Kingfisher was very good work. These little fellows tend not to hang about to allow people to tee up for a shot. (y)
