Ok I'm terrified of spiders but this guy just stayed put and was in such great light I went ahead and gave it a go. I don't have a macro so this is my kit lens with a bit of cropping. It is amazing how unafraid you become once you put the camera to your face. Anyway for the pics

I tried to push the processing a bit on this one... does it work?

Quite a good attempt for a non-macro lens but too much detail has gone in the processed version. You can see the hairs on its legs in the first image but he's been shaved by the time you've finished with the PP.
Why not get a cheap set ($25) of 58mm macro filters and see what you can do. They're a good lead in to a true macro lens and not much outlay if you're not sure whether you want to head in that direction.

Oh I already know I love to do that kind of work my pocket book just won't let me! I've had some promising interviews this weekend though so hopefully a job is eminent.

Not that bad at all considering its not a macro lens, you could get a set of manual extension tubes for about £8 delivered on ebay.

Nicely in focus and given what you used well done. I like #1 best.
