Stacking attempts

I found a dead stag beetle about 18 months ago and it has been in my freezer ever since. I tried stacking it with both flash and ambient light (not really natural as I was inside but it was no artificial light).
Natural light (13 seconds per exposure, possibly should have been more)

I think both worked nicely in terms of the stacking. The natural light shot looks a bit flat to me. I prefer the tonality and also the detail in the flash version, although it is so difficult to avoid excessive highlights with shiny surfaces like that. I have a lot of trouble with that.

I agree with you, I think for natural light you really need good light, this was not that good. The idea was to see what would work better and for indoor stacks a flash seems to be better than ambient light.
