Sten Aurora - Manchester Ship Canal, Ellesmere Port

Lovely composition, showing both tanker and tug at just the right angle.

Having the sea in my blood and been in the Merchant Navy when I was younger I can read a lot into this photograph. The ship and its crew, in the care of the harbour tugs, setting out on yet another voyage, leaving the land and its problems behind. Overhead the gulls wheeling to bid them farewell and the vastness of the sky reminding them of the Breton Fisherman's Prayer.

"Dear God, be good to me; the sea is so wide and my boat is so small.
