I observed a few situations where "squads" of
Mallards were having strange behaviours.

I these two instances,
they seem to frame and protect two Tufted ducks…

and here, to protect the resting place of a cousin or something!

The reality is surely totally different but it makes a nice story!

I admit that there is no extraordinary action
in these takes, Steve, but, from very young,
I learned with Disney and many others that
animals may be animated in one's head and
interpret situations with a pinch of humour!

Imagination is a major contribution to great photography, and a sense of humor a great benefit these days.:)

After taking the shot, I looked over to the right to
see what they were all looking at… found no threat
to justify that attention, go figure!
 
There are lots of unknown tufted duck assassins out there that you just don't see ;)
