Managed another day out around the lake with my new lens, really starting to enjoy its reach.

Snapped this fella doing a spot of fishing.

He picks his peg, which has already been baited with bread by someone (not me!)

He doesn't wait long for his first bite!

It's only a little one, but it's the first of many.

I believe it is a Bittern. Just bought a Hamlyn guide Birds of Britain and It seems to be.
Thanks Darren.
I think I'd have to agree with you
I've done some digging around and I think it's a Little Bittern.
Not sure how common they are here in Dubai, but I'll be keeping an eye out for him the next time a take a walk around the lake; there's plenty of small fish around the waters edge to keep him stocked up.
There's a Grey Heron that keeps paying a visit too.

A good sharp set with plenty of detail but imho you need to drop the brightness down, add some contrast and even a touch of saturation. The lack of visible shadows on and around the ground plus the subject, makes it look flat to my eye.

Nice set, it's a Striated Heron.
Thanks Joe, from looking at some other images of a Striated Heron I would agree

500mm....they must pay well in Dubai :) is it a 500mm prime?

Nice set. Food detail and focus.

Cheers.
Better Andy, but not prime better :(
Either way there would still be Wifey to convince!
