Your opinions please x

A very pretty and tranquil image. It's a shame quite so much of the clouds are blown.
I tke it because the sun was still so high in the sky that this was deliberately underexposed?

You have the composition right (y) but the exposure was always going to be the problem here.

In getting an exposure that renders the entire scene in an acceptable way you have lost detail in the darker areas whilst still having highlights to deal with.

Remember, the eye is always drawn to the brighter parts of the image.

You could have used filters to reduce the luminance in the sky however you would also need to have done something to reduce the bright area where the sun is reflected on the water (in the bottom edge of the photo).

It is no accident that Landscape photographers take a lot of images in the "golden hour", the light values are closer together and the differences from dark to bright areas are easier to handle.

So the upshot - you were right, it was a scene worth photographing however the light was always going to be difficult to control. You did a good job of that (y).

Now go back some other time (with filters!) when you have a better chance of controlling the scene.
