Swan in mid moult.

These were taken last week at Westhay Nature reserve in Somerset.
This Mute Swan is in mid moult and spent sometime in front of the hide preening and trying to clear the loose feathers.

Very nice capture especially the second one with the bow wave just over its head, we walked around the reserves a lot this week and that explains why there was so much swan feathers in piles everywhere including cyget down

Hi Adam.

I think this one had lost that many feathers that it probably couldn't fly if it wanted to. This was in front of the island hide at Westhay on Wednesday afternoon and yes there were feathers everywhere.
