Wild Swans! …post them in this communal thread.

Aww, not sure what you mean

The whites are well over the 255/255 mark.

The DR of your camera may be well overwhelmed over
8 stops. In this case, shoot to the left using some negative
compensation so to record more details in the higher keys.
It is what I do and this is the result…

Thanks, ill work on your advise, your picture sure shows a difference.

…a tad oversaturated but darn cool otherwise! (y)

Sculptural figure…

…definitely on the right track… (y)

but you could do even better!

Lot of wind changing overcast today so trying keep the right settings was difficult, ill keep practising though, thanks

I heard / read that many times before: practice practice
practice… and I think it is wrong as understanding is
the only right thing.

overcast today
These conditions permitted your successful attempt
trying keep the right settings was difficult,
Why that?

Hi ya Gil, it's the BBCode you need to use from Flickr (y)

… after a strong rain

This is the first Swan that I have seen since starting Digital photography. This was the one and only shot of any type of a pose, the rest of the time it was just sailing around looking like a plastic duck.

Excellent shot Charles.... I was much too far away to get anything this good - though I thought this was the plastic one that floated by !! lol

Thanks Mark(y). It was very nice to meet you and I am glad you have decided to join the forum, it would be nice if you could introduce yourself on the welcome forum where you will find the people on talk Photography very helpful and friendly:) Looking forward to many photographic outings with you.:)

Find a way to control the whites
and you're heading for the skies!

(y)(y)(y)(y)

Not sure which processed image is preferable though.

None of both!

STTL and use tonal taming. These steps
will simplify greatly the decision making
and improve your final renditions.
I like the first one because it doesn't show so much of the green tint in the water.
Don't worry about that… it's the trees that
are reflected. To avoid, position yourself
so to get a sky reflection for blue water.

I did STTL!

Yes Ben, I can see that through the great
level of details captured in the whites… (y)
but it needs to be PP'ed correctly.

Admittedly, the younger ones are easier.

Yes, because of the colour of their juvenile plumage!

Oddly, as you say you're improving your captures, I
see tremendous evolution in the graphic elements
you include in the takes! (y)(y)(y)
