Had a fun if somewhat wet day on saturday watching the Tempest rally in Aldershot. Here are a few that caught my eye, taken from the Pavilion stages

The heavens opened during this stage!

I do like Land Rovers :)
Particularly happy with this one as it was getting quite dark but a bit of TLC with Lightroom and it came out quite well!

(All taken with a Canon 7dii and a Canon 70-200 f2.8 non-IS lens)

Nice selection there Ashley. Really like the sense of movement in #2 and #3. What do you think of the 7d2?

#2 came out quite well considering the downpour! I think the rain adds an extra element to the photo
The tilt in #3 was accidental, i normally like my photos to be straight but I thought it looked quite nice. The reason for the tilt was about a minute before this car came through three small dogs ran across the track, marshals and spectators captured the dogs and the last was standing on the track itself not moving so I went over and picked it up in one hand (camera in the other) and passed it to a marshal just as that car came through the stage and I quickly took the photo but didn't have time to straighten the camera! the dog owner wandered over a few minutes later totally unaware of the danger the dogs faced!

I started off using a 40d which was quite good but eventually started needing shutters and other parts replaced so I got the 7dii. It felt much lighter than the 40d, and the 10fps is a godsend for motorsports. I tend to leave the ISO on auto and set the shutter speed manually (normally about 1,000/sec as I like to freeze motion, plus I'm a little wobbly at slow shutter speed pans) and I'm very pleased with the photos. I got a 70-200 f2.8 lens specifically for rallying after finding my other lenses too slow, especially in the dark forests and have been very impressed with the results. Despite the torrential rain, wind and low light at the last stage, both the camera and lens worked very well together

Cheers Ashley. Yes, there's nothing worse than a loose animal on the track with a competitor approaching. Have witnessed it several times here with road racing. Thanks also for the feedback on the 7d2. Looking to upgrade myself

Cracking set love the two MK 1 escorts and the Landy always had a thing for the Escorts :)
Thanks for sharing them!

Didn't make it this year, no waterproof gear. Found out subsequently it was the last time the event will be staged.
Red tape has put and end to it.
:(

I was gutted when I saw on GetHampshire that they've decided to stop it. Just too many rules & regs to follow now with the red tape as you say!
When you look back over the years and wonder how you are still alive when such regs and the 'Elf & safety brigade didn't exist back then

Nowadays it feels like a scene from Casualty if a little child stubs its toe!

(all meant tongue-in-cheek... yes I know the rules are there to protect us)

Great to see the mark 1 Escorts in full flow. Brings back loads of good memories.

For me these are a little tight but maybe thats a personal preference thing. Good shots though, and love the defender!
