I went back to the hide this afternoon in very bright contrasty conditions. Really struggled with this one. The Jay continues to outwit me! I did a few in vertical but there were problems with them all. One thing I have found is I am getting a lot of shots of these with the second eyelid closed.

Pah they're becoming as common as muck now :D
Nicely done (y)
edit Just a thought BOP's close it ( the nictitating membrane) before entering cover so as not to damage the eye.
So maybe woodies close it whilst hammering on wood for fear of flying splinters

Thats a great shot sawman, doesnt look like you struggled with it to me!

A bit of a shame that the tiniest bit of the tail is missing!

 Great detail in the feathers, black and white. Not easy :notworthy:

Love this shot  Set up looks great  I think Cobra could be right about the second eyelid, Been watching the woody's today at the feeder.

Nice one. Do you get the lesser spotted up there too?

Only ever seen a Lesser Spotted once up here. That was in the late 80s when I took part in a winter bird survey. It was among a flock of Chaffinches
