The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

any news on the FW update for the a9 that was meant to be coming this summer? animal eye af and time-lapse?

Hey woof woof, I've even had the problem on my A7 mkii which I think is 1/8000. May have to get some ND filters. Food for thought.

I’ve said it many times before, but Canon always demand the highest price point in the market, yet don’t warrant it these days. If you’re tied into a particular specialist lens etc then fine, but if money is a concern, others cover most eventualities at a better price point.

As a hobbyist too, for the most part, I do hope that once my core lenses are in place I can stick with a system and have a body upgrade every 4 years. Canon body upgrades are always priced highest. So, just need Sony to keep ahead of the game.
That's an interesting thought. You may well be right on canon pricing but whenever I had canon DSLRs I always found that the Nikon offering was often more expensive. Lenses were more dependent on what you wanted but bodies....maybe since I bought low end bodies Canon slightly edged on bang per buck.

Yup, I've had the info in the evf flash when at 1/8000 but when looking at the on my pc picture nothing has been significantly blown so 1/8000 seems to be enough whereas 1/4000 isn't anywhere near enough on some occasions.

One from Singapore. A7 and 35mm f2.8.

At the bottom end of the ranges, there’s not much between them granted. But in FF they have always maintained a higher price. When I switched to Nikon, from memory, uk price of the 5D3 was around £800 dearer than the D750 I switched to. I wasn’t totally tied to Canon with specific lenses. We do have to accept the upgrade path, providing you want to keep up with the latest tech.

I see the A7R4 has crept below £3000 at e-infinity. Didn’t take long. I wonder where it will level out. Currently £2999.

Is it on your radar Trev ?

That Tamron 70-180 f2.8 looks very interesting. Anyways wanted a 70-200 f2.8 but the size always put me off this might be the ideal compromise.

The Online Photographer talking about a new iPhone...

An interesting comment...

"Michael Perini: "I thought Apple’s announcement was significant. Of all the possible features that Apple could have spent resources on to insure sales, they chose to improve photography. If that is not a message heard by camera companies I cannot imagine what could be clearer. It says 'There's a big market there, and we're going after it.'"

Other commentators (Thom Hogan springs to mind) have been shouting about camera companies improving usability and connectivity for quite some time but will they ever move at anything other than a lethargic snails pace in these areas.

I don’t think it takes much to realise that taking pictures with a phone is one of the top things they’re used for these days and so improving that function will be high up on the list of every phone manufacturer for along time yet. Phones and digital imagery have revolutionised photography and brought it to within everyone’s grasp, they’re going to milk that for whatever they can.

I have mine set too off. I can't remember why. When I bought my first A7III I watched a few youtube videos and a couple of them mentioned leaving it off, there was a reason why I just can't remember what it was.

I only have a 28/70 until my 200/600 comes but i tried the A7r4 on my niece riding her bike I took 70 shots in about 5 bursts and only 1 was out of focus so very pleased with the camera . I used large zone and locked on
Rob.

Mine’s off. Stretching memory here as haven’t moved that setting since new but I think it only affects jpgs and I shoot raw. Also remember a few issues with raw shots being underexposed if it was on, but could have just been learning curve.

Hope you get it soon.

Mind if I ask what you were using before A7RIV?

A friend of mine is looking for upgrade his D810 but he isn't keen on Nikon's offering at the moment. His lens (200-500mm) doesn't work so well on Z7 but he doesn't like the EVF in Sony A7RIII.
I told him A7RIV would be better but I have never used one myself.

Well 2 systems 1dxmkII and 600f4 mkII now sold and Em1x 300f4 pro Keeping the Olympus I bought the Sony Purely to use the 200/600 as plenty of MPs to crop with but I may get the a9mkII next year depends on spec .
Rob.

that's quite a downgrade though isn't it? (600mm f4 prime vs. a slower telezoom)

It may seem that way but the 1dxmkII Scares the birds away after a few shots so then the 600f4 is useless the Olympus and the Sony both have silent shutters birds don't veer off as they get closer as there is no shutter sound this is the main reason Iv changed
Canon have been too slow to bring out a pro type mirror less .

That was what I saw recently, but wasn’t sure if it affected jpeg only.
I’ve had a fair few shots underexposed even though they look fine on both the evf and screen.

If I don't understand anything I turn it off.

Hahaha I’m probably the opposite if I’m not sure I leave as is.
