The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I swapped my Batis 85 out for the FE85 because I didn't use the OIS & never even looked at the OLED display in the whole time I had it...... :$ :ROFLMAO:

I bought it before the FE was released btw,

Rendering is basically the same from what I have seen.

LCD screen isn't any more accurate the live view.
I was joking about the LCD screen ;)

What made you swap if you already had the Batis?

In my case cheaper, smaller, lighter, better 1st party AF support for pretty much exactly the same IQ inc. rendering.
The custom button and the switch on the lens is also nice more so than the useless battery draining LCD :p (we didn't have juicy Z batteries back in the day)

Hi,

Hope you're all well. Nice to see some new faces knocking about in here.

Quick question. Just bought a used samyang 24mm 2.8 for a bit of a walk about. Just tested it and at 2.8 on AF-S its unbelievably soft after AF confirmation beep. In AF-C it looks decent.

Any thoughts on whether this is normal for this lens or does it need to go back?

Probably needs AF tuning using the lens station.
To test it's optically fine use MF with focus magnification to check that.

Lol, that's what you get for beating me to it!

Seriously though, I hope it turns out OK.

There's an A7III in the classifieds for £1,150. That seems to be a very tempting price but maybe I'm wrong? I'd be tempted myself if my A7 wasn't doing just about everything I need*

Anyway, if that's the bargain I think it is maybe someone should buy it before I'm way too tempted :D

*The only photography I've done today is document copying.

Once my 90mm gets here I have quite a project already planned, to start and finish photographing old Kodak slides of the 1960s when we were in Australia.

I've copied quite a few old pictures and they come out well enough to distribute amongst family etc. These were copied using a Panasonic camera.

This is a crop from the above. It looks much better on my screen and in print than here.

One last one.

And no, none of these are me.

Very nice indeed, I think if you take some time with it then they are fine and your ones have come out well.

Considering what the originals look like they're fine and now they have a new life on phones, tablets and PC's throughout the family. And some are printed and in new albums or even framed :D

I have one on Flickr that I did using the Fuji X camera and kit lens with a Raynox 150 clipped on. I was over the moon with it as the slide was old dirty orange with specks on but I managed to clean it up enough to be printed.

Ah fair enough
Didn't check the grey prices tbh.

I actually think the 16-35mm is a better range than both.

Unless you need that f2.8 I'd suggest the 16-35mm f4.
I think the Tamron and Sigma would also be better on a gimbal than the Sony

Ah yes they do that.
I really want an all rounder to try some stuff i've never done. Video and astro to start and possibly some property interiors.

Also considered the Sony 20mm f/1.8 then you start thinking for a bit more I can get the 24mm f/1.4 but it's probably not wide enough.

Apparently a 24mm f1.4 is the best lens the astro according to these guys

They do specialise quite heavily in astrophotography so might be worth a read.

Just had a quick read, thanks for the link and for opening that can of worms ;)

I have the Sony 20mm f1.8. I haven't had the opportunity to use it for anything worth keeping let alone framing but my dream is a trip to see the northern lights one day. In the meantime it seems to be a very good lens at a reasonable price, it seems well made and sharp and the image quality seems to be very good across the frame. If anyone is looking for a lens in this sort of focal length I think it deserves to be on the list of possibles and deserves a serious look at.

Thing is that after the Sigma 12-24mm, 20mm doesn't seem all that wide anymore. I'd love another 12-24mm :D

PS.
I remember thinking I'd be happy if the Sony 20mm f1.8 was only as good as the old Sigma 20mm f1.8 I had for my Canon DSLR's but it really is in a different league to that lens.

I guess it was only a matter of time until Adobe jumped on this bandwagon too.

I think I could probably replace a sky but getting the picture to look right must surely take more than dropping a new sky in and is very probably beyond my processing levels :D

It does that automatically too. Alters the light in the rest of the image depending on the sky you use...
