Olivier, here 15, is like many kids his age suffering the damnation of having
a father that is a coach/trainer in any sport: he caught the passion of his dad!
In this occurrence hockey. Canadian hockey that is!

As the season begins, ice times and dry trainings are somewhat alternating at
a devil's rhythm. Here, I intercepted him between our home training room and
the shower, I just noticed his back as he was putting away some equipment on
a higher shelf:
— Come in the studio, I want to take a picture of you! —
"… no daddy, I meet my friends in half an hour…"
— I will be quick! —

I really can appreciate the conversion here to black and white and the low key lighting. There is nothing to disturb the eye in the background and one can concentrate on the composition and the shadows that are created by musculature of this young man.

I think it is more dramatic the way you have positioned him. He looks poised and ready.

How is it that you finally convinced him to pose? What did he think of the picture when he saw it?

And, just asking, why is there no arrow?

The musculature is excellent, and the tones too. If I were to critique, I really miss the top & bottom of the bow being out of shot (miss the top most though) the hand says that it's a pose and the lack of arrow likewise. Really well 'grabbed' though.

That was the easy part: since we work together, we often use
one another as test model.

He was completely silent and immobile for a short while!

Possibly himself surprised of the effects of the hard training
he was going through.
And, just asking, why is there no arrow?
After his training, I was not going to ask him to pose with an
arrow tired as he certainly was… the risk could have been too high.

Thanks for your comments and dropping by!

Hi Toni,
the fairly strong bow was for me just the way to design the back muscles I saw,
and the pretext to a character shot; as such, the bow is not so important.

Like the B&W look, more light on the right hand side maybe to show off the "muscle" look ???

…more light on the right hand side maybe…

The older brother was there that day when I asked:
"What about a reflector on the right?"
his answer was:
"… he's got enough on one side!
So there it was.

I like that, looks good black-and-white and a very intense image :)

Cool.

I always like to read how a photo comes together.
