It’s a great idea. As you asked for pointers.... my eye says the aircraft pairs are too evenly spread out. The spacing within the pairs is too equal. And 3 pairs smoking at the same time seems a little unrealistic. Finally, the angle of bank looks a little too similar between each pair. These guys were fighting for their lives so I would imagine that the moves would be a bit more aggressive rather than a gentle turn to the left.

The background, and rendition of the image is really nice though.
