They're nice photos, the second seems a touch underexposed and the focus has just missed the eyes. I think they would have been improved if you could have managed catch lights in the eyes.

Thanks and yes, you're right. I was shooting into the light, as behind and above the hamster there's a window. I much prefer my the first one.

I will try again, when I can, and see if I can improve the eyes.

It definitely looks better with the exposure pushed up. I think you were right to crop it though. Maybe line the sides up with the back corners of the white (tissue paper?).

Definitely, I'll save it for next time I attempt to shoot it - will cover more of the carpet in paper, so it's much more even.
