Made an impromptu visit to Bempton Cliffs recently. As we were at the top of the cliffs opportunities for seeing flying puffins were few. I spent a lot of time spotting for my wife and others - they got the shots of puffins, I ended up with none!!! Just my luck, but never mind.
Was fascinated by the juvenile gannets, of which they were very many. They so clearly loved exercising their wings on a sunny day and loved the experience and freedom of flying. Not all their attempts were that graceful, but you could see the enjoyment. Take offs were often not too bad:
1.
But once in the air the airways often got a bit crowded and air traffic control just did not work:
2.
In addition landing space was not always available, so landing looked somewhat ungainly as in the final descent they tried to miss birds already on the cliffs:
3.
But the one thing that was self evident throughout was the joy of flight they all experienced:
4.
Hope you may enjoy these as much as I enjoyed watching the gannets!
