The Loch in the Glen

Very theatrical…
but with haloing?

Lovely brooding photo. As a relative beginner to photography with a particular interest in landscapes, I am intrigued by Kodiak's comment regarding "haloing" ... what does this mean and where is it in the photo?

because its a small file the sky just above the mountain on the left is slightly lighter but on the full version its not noticeable

Thanks for explaining...... I think I need to clean my glasses as I really struggle to notice anything different lol

it is subtle ;)

I this case, starting at the left of the higher peak
and all the way to the right of the image, a fine
haloing line is observable… a PP artefact.

@cannockwolf

I went on your external linked image but it is the
same size and there it is too!?!?!

its the same size image mate im on about the print version 7000px

Having Googled and read up on it, I understand what "haloing" is. I have to say it is something I struggle to see but I guess more practiced eyes know what to look out for. An interesting topic.

An interesting topic.

Many things may be learned or experienced through
personal research… keep going.

On the topic, most of my students are generating halos
at the beginning as they have to learn to work more
patiently and carefully.

The posted picture is from an accomplished imagery
artist so that's why I am surprised and baffled to see
the halo. Some say that the "web" or the host most be
responsible but I have never experienced it. Some
others will blame the jpg compression…

ive printed it out at A3 its fine ???

I know you know what your doing, for sure… and if
the A3 is good, then it most be impressive, sure too!

I wonder though where it comes from…

it won me the monthly print comp at camera club and the judges love picking faults lol

yep

Glad to see it got a monthly prize, well deserved!
Best I've had at A3 is commended, - it's your quality output which aspires me to continue...

thanks, if you make the effort to keep going out you get the rewards!

the 5 monthly's are part of the annual comp which i won last year in the colour prints (and the dpi too) :)
