To commemorate the 74th anniversary of D-Day I thought I'd post this

Great viewpoint and composition Terry, very nice colours sympathetic to the sentiments too.

:agree: … thoughI do not get WHY this flower was chosen
as symbol , any idea?

the poppy fields of Flanders

A search got me this…

The Normandy landings were the landing operations on Tuesday, 6 June 1944
of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II.
The poppy is a late Spring flower… now I got it, thanks Terry!

Flanders is a reference to World War 1. The poppy was among the first, and was the most distinctive, plant to grow back on the battlefields, and inspired a poem (In Flanders Fields). The poppy became the symbol of remembrance of the huge loss of life during that war, first adopted by the US but subsequently in a number of other countries including France and the UK. Now that unfortunately more wars/conflicts, call them what you will, have passed the poppy has become symbolic of loss of life in all wars, and of the fundraising for those affected by conflict.
Sadly no-one ever learns the lessons of history................
