awesome (y)
I only learned about Black Barn Owls earlier this year, never seen one though :)
And we had a wild Eagle Owl land on our balcony in Croatia, scared the bejeesus out of my wife, but I thought it was amazing (no camera to hand though :( )

Apparently, the black barn owls don't survive in the wild. The parents eat them because they don't recognise them as their own as they're not white. It's just a pigmentation in their skin or something.

The eagle owl only weighed 4oz but felt really heavy.

I suspect you miss-heard.
EEO's are around the 4lb mark ( +/- )
Male Kessies and Male Spars are 4+ oz
