First day out with a camera this year and I resolved to get closer to the Twites again, but it wasn't the best of days for photographing birds. I picked a spot which was damp and bloody cold (2 degrees), then proceeded to lie as motionless as I could on the ground amongst the near-frozen grass for a couple of hours. Eventually, I enjoyed being about ten feet away from these guys who were probably wondering just how daft I was to be laying there in the cold. They weren't alone!!
I've cropped the tail out of the 2nd & 3rd shot and although I'm happy with the result, I wonder if this will not be to some folks liking. The first shot is shown 'as shot' and then cropped, but I don't like it anyway because of the leg-irons.
The last two shots show the only un-ringed bird I could see in the flock, but it had been digging about in the dirt for food, hence the accumulation of crud on the beak.
