Two young birds, but are they sharp?

Tried going full manual this weekend and I believe I am starting to produce some half decent shots. Please tell me I am not far off, it's so hard to nail it.

First one looks spot on Second one not so sharp and too dark - the leaf to the left looks in focus though

Thanks guys, seems 50% ain't bad. I vow to return when that young Starling is sharper than a tack.

Both look good. However, the second is a little unfocused. Although I wouldn't necessarily say it was dark because the colour of the bird is dull and in the shadows.
