Oh, thank you, I should have figured it out myself ... ---

I read a little about the Corvair. Its handling was not worse than that of European rear-drive, rear engine cars of the time (VW, Simca, Renault, NSU, Skoda ...),
but the stronger engine made it reach higher and more dangerous speed.

Successive later improvements of he front and rear axle did not improve the image. It was dead.

Nowadays with electronic help a construction like this might have a greater chance in the marketplace ...

What are the whiskers just in front of the front wheels? I see a few of the cars have them.

Hi, originally they were used to make a ringing sound to keep some distance from the curb to protect the white-wall tires (which were expensive then).

Nowadays, they are just there, but might still be helpful with the wide bodies of U.S. cars. (Modern SUVs have 360 degree cameras for this.)
