I've had this knocking around since the days I had my own darkroom and loved the effect it gave on prints, also used to use it on my film cameras, so decided to give it a go on my X30.
Not really as successful as with film cameras due to the inherent increase in depth of field with smaller digital sensors ( I feel the 'blades' are rather evident in the end result) but perhaps worth continuing to experiment with rather than resorting to doing this in post - always sooner spend time behind the camera than in front of the computer!
